November News

It was so great to see all of you at conferences! It was wonderful to get to tell you about all the wonderful things your students are doing!

Water Cycle:

We are deep into the water cycle and we will be taking our final test on Thursday, November 11. Your student has some study guides that they need to be using at home to prepare for the test.

Revision Strategies Unit

Unit Objective: Students will learn many skills that will help strengthen the craft of their personal writing

Process: Students will study many examples of excellent writing. After examining the craft used by mentor authors, they will participate in guided lessons where they will use their new technique. Students will use these skills to improve their own writing to prepare for publishing.

Using lots of peer sharing and editing, students will publish an original piece of writing.

Assessment: Students will use a rubric to guide their writing. The rubric will be used to assign a grade to their piece. Students will complete a Self Assessment on their writing.

The students have been working on a piece of writing that they selected to publish. So far they have re-written their leads and worked on the description of their settings. Their stories are more amazing than I even imagined!

Everyday edits:

Many of you have expresses an interest in helping your student with their everyday edits.
We do practice them every day and grade them together everyday. But some students still struggle a bit finding the errors in the selected piece.

Below is the link to the everyday edits site. Please use the May through July readings so that you don't work on the same ones we do in class.
