And we're off!

Well, the year has started with a bang! We jumped right into so many exciting things in 4th grade!

Science:
We have been studying the clouds and what they tell us about upcoming weather. Students need to identify the three main types of clouds (cirrus, cumulus and stratus) and be able to recognize what weather they are indicating.

We will be observing and discussing the clouds and weather for now. A few months down the road we will return to our weather unit and really get further in depth. Please discuss clouds and weather with your students as you drive around your everyday business.

Reading:
We started our Character Study Unit. I am reading Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli to them. We are really focusing on the characters in the story. We are discussing character traits, antagonist, protagonist, character conflicts and motivations. We will be studying our Character Unit for the entire month of September.

Writing:
We have begun our Memoir Unit. In this unit we will be examining many good examples of memiors during this unit. At the conclusion each student will be publishing their own memoir.

Math:
In this unit in math we are adding and subtracting whole numbers. We are estimating sums and differences (rounding) and working on our problem solving skills. Very soon we hope you will access to the online components of the new math series. You will be able to access powerpoints and lesson instructions to help your student work on the materials at home.

Wish list:
There are a few items we could use in our classroom-
sticky notes
disinfectant wipes

Thank you!
